Clocks Fall Back Sunday: What You Need to Change
How-To·November 1, 2026

Daylight saving time ends on Sunday, November 1, and most people in the United States will need to set their clocks back one hour. The change takes effect at 2 a.m. local time, which becomes 1 a.m., so the hour from 1 to 2 a.m. happens twice.
Phones, laptops, tablets and smartwatches usually handle the switch on their own once they are connected to a network. The rest of the house is less automatic. Microwaves, ovens, car dashboards, wall clocks and older appliances often need a manual adjustment, and some will stay wrong until you next use them, so it is worth walking through the rooms the morning after.
Not everyone changes. Hawaii and most of Arizona stay on standard time all year, and some other regions run their own schedules. If you travel or set up meetings across time zones, check that your calendar app is using the right zone, since a mismatch can cause missed appointments.
The switch also brings earlier sunsets, which is a common reminder to test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and replace their batteries if needed.
