Claimed $6B Binance Hack Remains Unconfirmed

A headline circulating online says Binance has lost more than $6 billion in what it calls the largest cryptocurrency hack in history. We could not confirm that claim. Searches of available coverage turned up no statement from Binance and no reporting from major news outlets describing a loss of that size.

The figure would dwarf every crypto theft on record. The largest Binance-linked incident we could find is the October 2022 exploit of the BNB Chain bridge, which drained roughly $570 million after attackers forged transactions by exploiting a bug in the bridge's smart contract. Binance's earlier hot wallet breach, in May 2019, took about $41 million in bitcoin, and the company said its internal insurance fund would cover the losses.

Other major thefts give a sense of the scale involved. The 2022 Ronin Bridge hack took about $615 million, and the 2025 attack on exchange Bybit, at roughly $1.5 billion, is the largest we are aware of. U.S. authorities linked the Bybit theft to North Korean hackers.

Until Binance or an independent blockchain security firm confirms a loss of that magnitude, readers should treat the $6 billion number as unverified. A theft that large would be visible in on-chain transaction data and would almost certainly prompt an official statement from the exchange. This story will be updated if either appears.
