Chrome Will Warn You Before You Land on a Scam Site

Google Chrome is set to notify users when they open a website that looks like a scam. The change extends the browser's protective warnings beyond the dangerous pages it already flags, aiming at sites built to trick people out of money or personal information.

Chrome already displays warnings for pages that Google's Safe Browsing service identifies as hosting malware or phishing. A scam-focused alert would cover a different kind of harm: pages that may not carry a virus or copy a login screen, but still deceive visitors into paying for something that never arrives or handing over sensitive details.

The headline alone does not say how the detection will work, which sites will trigger the notice, or when it will reach every user. Those details should be confirmed in Google's own announcement before anyone relies on the feature. For now, the direction is clear: Chrome is moving to flag fraud as well as malicious code.
