AO3 Outage Could Keep Fanfic Offline for Two Weeks or More

The Archive of Our Own, the nonprofit fanfiction library run by the Organization for Transformative Works, is experiencing a major outage. Reports circulating among fans suggest the site could stay unavailable for two weeks or longer, which would leave one of the largest collections of fan-written stories offline for an extended stretch.

The source report does not give the cause of the failure, how much of the site is affected, or whether a restoration timeline has been confirmed. Anyone looking for updates should check the Archive's official status channels and social accounts, where maintainers usually post progress notes during incidents like this.

For readers and writers, the practical effect is that stories, bookmarks, and comment threads may be unreachable until service returns. Authors who keep backups of their work elsewhere are in the best position to weather the wait. The outage is also a reminder of how much of the fan fiction community depends on a single volunteer-supported platform.
