Amazon's Top Echo Speaker Learns to Watch the Room
Smart Home·October 29, 2026

Amazon is adding a camera to its most capable smart speaker. The product, called the Echo Studio with Home Camera, is designed to do more than play audio: according to Amazon's description, it can "see and understand what's in front of the camera," turning a speaker that already sits in the middle of a living room into a device that also watches it.
Putting a camera and a speaker in one housing lets a single device handle both music and visual monitoring. The source material does not say what the camera recognizes, how that processing works, where any footage is stored, or what privacy controls users will have. Those questions matter more for a camera than for a speaker, and a one-line product description does not answer them.
The announcement also leaves out price and release timing. Without those numbers, it is hard to compare the Echo Studio with Home Camera against dedicated indoor cameras from other brands, or to judge whether the speaker's audio quality justifies the cost of the extra hardware. Buyers will likely want the full specifications and privacy documentation before deciding.
